Beachwood Passes Cell Phone Ban for Drivers
New law prohibits most cell phone use while behind the wheel

Beachwood City Council voted unanimously to pass a new city law that bans most cell phone use for drivers.
The ordinance, which is more strict than just weeks ago, prohibits drivers from using cell phones and GPS devices unless they are using a hands-free or voice-controlled system.

This includes texting, emailing, Internet surfing, navigating and making or receiving phone calls unless its with a hands-free device.
Chief Mark Sechrist said that he believes the state law is not clear enough and that the same restrictions on using electronic devices behind the wheel should apply to everyone.
