Beachwood Police Seek New Firing Range
Facility would be built in former Service Center near City Hall, Police Department

The City of Beachwood Police Department is seeking to replace the firing range in the
Chief Mark Sechrist said the department will brief the Beachwood Safety and Public Health Committee at their meeting next week on their proposal to build a new range in the now-vacant former Services Building behind City Hall.
Sechrist said the department’s firing range, located inside the police department, is outdated and small. The officers cannot be certified on rifles in that range – only handguns – and the amount of lead has become a problem, calling for more upkeep for the range and protective suits for the shooters.

The new range would be up-to-date with the Environmental Protection Agency’s standards and allow officers to be certified on their own range.
Sechrist added that the proposal is still in its very early stages, and costs are not yet known.

If the Safety Committee gives approval, the department will solicit bids for range proposals, and then present those to the City and request to advertise for bidders for the final project.
The Safety and Public Health Committee meeting is open to the public and will be held Wednesday, March 28 at 9 a.m. in Conference Room A.
