"The foundation of good memory (dementia) care is to provide significant roles for each individual as well as opportunities to contribute," said Cameron J. Camp, Ph.D, a nationally and internationally acclaimed memory care expert who is working with the new initiative, which is funded by the Irving I. Stone Foundation. "It is inherent in human nature to feel a sense of self-worth through accomplishments among peers. If the activities impart feelings of community and personal success, that's what gives a person a reason to wake up in the morning," Camp added. The distinct residence, named Helen's Place after the wife of Stone Garden's namesake Irving Stone, will be in Stone Gardens' third-floor south and west wings.
