Wiggins Place Resident to Receive Purple Heart
Donald Arnold to be awarded by Sen. Sherrod Brown

When Army medic Pvt. Donald Arnold was wounded in an attack on American soldiers in Germany during World War II, he cut the shrapnel out of his own leg, bandaged it, and continued treating his fellow soldiers.
But because there was no written account of his act of heroism, Arnold, now 89, waited 67 years to be commended with a Purple Heart. Instead, he received the lesser Silver Heart.
That day has finally come. Arnold will be awarded with a Purple Heart at next week by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.
