The Census data is a massive trove of information, so the plan here is to highlight some interesting facts gleamed from the data:

  • Brecksville’s total population was 13,656. The city is not a very diverse one. About 93 percent of the population was white. About 3 percent of the population was Asian and nearly 2 percent was black. These percentages were similar to those in .
  • The black population was older than average for the city. Overall, the median age of a Brecksville resident was 47.4, and about 77 percent of the population was 18 or older. For black residents, the median age was 50.4, and about 85 percent of residents were 18 or older.
  • That trend was reversed for Brecksville’s Asian and Hispanic/Latino populations. The median age for Asian residents was 39.9. About 74 percent of Asian residents were 18 and older. For people identifying as Hispanic or Latino, the average age was 33. Only 62 percent of Hispanic residents were 18 or older.
  • Brecksville residents tend to have small families. The average family size for the total population was 3.
  • Overall, only about 30 percent of families included children under 18, but the percentage of families with minors in the house varied across racial lines. Black families were more likely to have children under the age of 18 in the house—nearly 49 percent of families—as were Asian families and Hispanic families, both at about 44 percent.
  • Close to 88 percent of Brecksville residents owned their home, and about 12 percent rented. The percentage who rent was higher for Hispanic residents at 18.5 percent and black residents at nearly 26 percent.
