First Day of School, Ever: Reminders for Kindergarten Parents

For students starting kindergarten this year, that first day is coming up quickly.

Here are a few dates and resources that parents will want to remember from Director of Curriculum and Instruction Carla Calevich:

• Class starts on , but the first official day of school for kindergarteners is Sept. 4.
• Aug. 29, 30 and 31 will be phase-in days for the kindergarten students and their families, Calevich said. This is like a mini-orientation with parents and teachers. Some student assessments will be done on those days, as well. Families who registered their students before the buildings shut down for the summer should have received a letter from the principal with their phase-in day in June. If they registered in July or later, they will receive a letter when the buildings open up again in mid-August.
• The district is still registering students for kindergarten every day, Calevich said. If a student is not registered yet, they can make an appointment with the Pupil Services office by calling (440) 740-4709.
• There is also registration information on the district’s website. According to the district’s site, students must be 5 years old by Sept. 30 to enroll.
