Man Gives Police A False Name—Twice: Brecksville Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incident was reported by the on May 28. The information was compiled from a police report.

Man gives two false names
Police pulled over a car on Brecksville Road at 7:41 p.m. on May 28 after noticing it was missing a front license plate. The stop quickly turned into trouble for one of the passengers, a 23-year-old Akron man. Police asked the four people in the car for identification, but one of the passengers gave a fake name and birth date.

The officer asked whether the man had any siblings, trying to figure out his real identity. The man said he had a brother. The officer looked up the sibling—the photo looked like the man in question and the man confirmed that he had a warrant in Wayne County, so the police thought they had identified him. The man was told he was being taken in for the warrant and was going to be charged with falsification.

But the story wasn’t done yet. At the station, a jailer told police that the suspect was, in fact, a different brother. That brother also had a warrant: a misdemeanor from Brookpark. He was still charged for falsification and for possessing drug abuse instruments. The driver had given police the man’s property before they left for the station: a pair of pants with a needle inside. The man tried to tell police the pants weren’t his, but then relented and said they were. He said he used heroin recreationally.
