Odd Parking Spot Catches Police’s Attention and a Drunken Driving Stop Gets Rowdy: Brecksville Police Blotter

The following incidents were reported by the  from July 27 to Aug. 2. The information was compiled from police reports.

Car catches police’s attention
Police noticed a car with dark windows parked near the end of a driveway in the 8500 block of Brecksville Road around 4:23 a.m. on Aug. 2 and stopped to check it out. The car then pulled up the driveway and three men got out. The police asked the men to stop, an order they ignored at first. When they did come to the officers’ vehicle, the police smelled marijuana.

Police questioned one of the men, who said they were dropping one of the passengers off, and that they were getting out to “chill” for a while. The man, a 21-year-old Cleveland resident, told police there was no marijuana in the car and that they could search it. The police did find marijuana in the car. The 21-year-old said it was his and was charged with possession of marijuana. 

Someone tried to file her taxes for her
A Brecksville resident stopped by the police station on July 31 to report a potential fraud attempt—someone had allegedly filed taxes using her social security number. The resident had called the IRS to ask why she never received a refund check, and was told that two different sets of taxes had been filed with her social security number on them—one was filed electronically in February and one was mailed in May. The resident had mailed her return in May. She then had to report the incident to the proper authorities.

A drunken driving stop turns rowdy
Shortly before 11 p.m. on July 27, an officer followed a car that was weaving along Brecksville Road, stopping it when the driver pulled into the BP gas station. The driver, a 41-year-old Medina woman, was swaying in her seat and looked confused when the officer approached her car. She said she was lost and admitted to having had a few drinks.

She did poorly on the field sobriety tests, and the officer placed her under arrest. She struggled and said the handcuffs were too tight, kicked the car window when officers began searching her car and then urinated in the back seat. She was charged with driving under the influence of liquor, operating a vehicle under the influence by blood alcohol level and driving in a weaving course.
