Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:
- Cincinnati has announced two finalists for the city manager: John Curp and Sheryl Long. According to the city's news release, five candidates out of 21 applicants were interviewed for the position β John Curp, Sheryl Long, Nichalos Gardner, David Johnston, and Khalil Zaied. A vote for the next city manager, who will be responsible for choosing the city's next police chief, is expected to take place within the next couple of weeks. (Spectrum News 1)
- Cincinnati Animal CARE is expanding with a new pet adoption center near Pleasant Ridge. The Hamilton County shelter and animal welfare agency will act as a satellite stop for potential new pet parents to visit four-legged friends who have been living in foster homes. The new Pet Adoption Center will be located at 3262 Highland Ave. in Columbia Township (close to Lowe's near Pleasant Ridge) and will be open from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays and 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays through the month of August. - According to statistics from the Cincinnati Police Department, around 64 percent of homicide cases were closed in the city this year. That number is well above the national average, which is around 54 percent, according to the most recent Federal Bureau of Investigations clearance data published for 2020. The department cited a variety of reasons for the higher average, including anonymous tips. (WCPO 9 Cincinnati)
