Tommy is getting by – kind of: he is crashing in his uncle’s decrepit house in Dublin, dodging his estranged family, and
plotting a parade of get-rich-quick schemes with his buddy Doc. Then one day he defends a destitute woman against a violent attack, and a fragile glimmer of hope appears.

About the Playwright:

Conor McPherson was born in Dublin. He attended the University College in Dublin, where he began to write
and direct. He is considered one of the best contemporary Irish playwrights. His plays have been performed
internationally and have garnered numerous awards. His plays include RUM & VODKA, THE GOOD THIEF, THIS LIME TREE BOWER, ST. NICHOLAS, THE WEIR (Laurence Olivier Award, Best Play), DUBLIN CAROL, PORT AUTHORITY, SHINING CITY (Tony Award nomination, Best Play) and THE SEAFARER.

Film work includes: I Went Down, Saltwater, Samuel Beckett’s Endgame, and The Actors. Other awards include the George Divine Award; Critics Circle Award, Evening Standard Award; Meyer Whitworth Award; Stewart Parker Award; two Irish Film & Television Academy Best Screenplay Awards; CICAE Best Film Award, Berlin Film Festival (for Saltwater); Best Film and Best Screenplay Awards, San Sebastian Film Festival (for I Went Down).

THE NIGHT ALIVE was
awarded the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play in 2014, while also receiving Best Play
nominations from the Drama Desk and Lucille Lortell Awards.

In 2017, McPherson is premiering GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY, a play based on and using songs by Bob Dylan, at the Old Vic in London.

About the Director:
Leighann Delorenzo most recently directed Dobama Theatre productions of THE REVISIONIST and SLOWGIRL.

Previously she appeared as Helena in the Dobama production of KIN. Leighann is currently the Upper School
Theater Director at Laurel School in Shaker Heights, where she teaches technique-based acting classes. Her
specialty is heightened texts and voice and movement for the actor. Recent directing credits include Noel
Coward's HAY FEVER, Shakespeare's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and Federico Garcia Lorca's THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA. Leighann earned an MFA in classical theater performance from The University of South Carolina and completed her graduate program with a professional acting fellowship with The Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC. There she appeared in five productions, sharing the stage with Dixie Carter, Hal Holbrook and Ty Burrell, and also served as a member of the master acting class faculty. Leighann made her Cleveland acting debut in Neil La Bute’s THIS IS HOW IT GOES at The Bang and the Clatter in 2009, appeared at Dobama as Theresa in CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION, and played the title role of Sabra in Karen Sunde’s HOW HIS BRIDE CAME TO ABRAHAM at None Too Fragile in Akron, where she was most recently seen in IN A FOREST DARK AND DEEP and was also featured in the world premiere of the critically acclaimed POSSUM DREAMS by Ed Falco, which enjoyed an Off-Broadway engagement. Leighann has served as acting faculty for the Dobama Emerging Actors Program (DEAP) for the past seven seasons.
