CVS Health Debuts HealthHUB™ Experience to Serve Columbus

Individuals and families throughout the Columbus region can now experience health care that is more simple, convenient and affordable with the debut of CVS HealthHUBä, which can be experienced at 22 CVS Pharmacy locations in Central Ohio. The HealthHUB locations feature a range of integrated health care products; expanded services from MinuteClinic, the company’s retail medical clinic; and new lifestyle-based wellness options.

Designed to offer a comprehensive array of products and services to fit a customer’s unique needs, CVS HealthHUB locations also aim to address the significant challenge of chronic disease management in response to a national study revealing nine out of 10 patients need more help managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol and sleep apnea. Today, one in two Americans has at least one chronic illness, with data showing that close to $500 billion of the costs associated with chronic disease are avoidable.

In Ohio, chronic diseases including heart disease and diabetes are the leading causes of death and disability in the state, and nearly 11 percent of adults in Columbus have been diagnosed with diabetes. Expanded clinical services for these conditions are available via telehealth and in-person at the new HealthHUB locations.

One new service for those managing chronic disease is convenient, accessible diabetic retinopathy screenings at MinuteClinic in the HealthHUB, a service that has traditionally only been available at an ophthalmologist office.

“Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that can cause vision loss and even blindness. Out of all people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, 80 percent of patients with diabetes will eventually develop some stage of diabetic retinopathy,” said Angela Patterson, Chief Nurse Practitioner, MinuteClinic and Vice President, CVS Health. “Early detection is key, and we can provide a simple five-minute eye exam using the latest in retinal imaging technology at MinuteClinic.”

Additional expanded MinuteClinic services include heart failure assessment and monitoring for individuals with a history of congestive heart failure. Patients can also receive an obstructive sleep apnea screening assessment and diagnosis – including a take-home kit that eliminates the need for an overnight sleep study and treatment device options available in-store, making the turnaround time from diagnosis to device as fast as seven days.

Customers can begin their visit to a HealthHUB by speaking with an on-site care concierge who focuses on educating customers about the extensive range of service offerings, helping them navigate in-store products and services, and connecting them to a team of health care providers.

• Shop hundreds of products such as health devices like Symphonyä medical alert system by CVS Health that syncs to your mobile phone, aromatherapy, fitness essentials, durable medical equipment, sleep apnea products and more.
• Learning table for customers to explore health and wellness apps and shop an expanded assortment of products on CVS.com.

More Personalized Support at the Pharmacy

• Education and counseling in a private consultation space for individuals with chronic conditions, helping to create personalized plans that enable better health outcomes and reduce medical costs.
• Pharmacist-led diabetes counseling and smart device coaching for select blood glucose monitors.

Expanded Services at MinuteClinic

• Continued convenient access to services for minor illnesses and injuries, as well as immunizations, wellness and health checks.
• Screening, treatment and monitoring for chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.
• End-to-end sleep apnea solution, including sleep assessment by an independent third-party provider.
• Suite of services to help manage common health conditions for young adults.
• Phlebotomy services such as on-site A1c in conjunction with a MinuteClinic visit.
• Smoking cessation plans for customers and caregivers to help individuals quit smoking.
