Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Four Central Ohio Students

Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom

COLUMBUS, OH - Four students from central Ohio were recently recognized among Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students of the Month for March in recognition of their hard work and leadership in the online classroom.

Olivia Bidwell, a first grader from Grove City, Winston Lindsey, a second grader from Columbus, Natalie Carey, a third grader from Columbus and Rylee Tanner, a fifth grader from Galloway, were each nominated by their teachers and will be presented a certificate recognizing their achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter. Each month during the school year statewide, online public charter school will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students these students and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”

Winston’s mother, Tiffani, enrolled him in Ohio Connections Academy because it gave the family the freedom to teach and introduce concepts to Winston at a pace that worked for them. “We like that we have the freedom to add to Winston's lessons when he needs a challenge,” she said.

Olivia’s parents, David and Randi, enrolled her in the online school last year because they wanted her in an effective online learning program along with the schedule flexibility that it offers. “I love Connections Academy because I am learning so many new things in a fun way,” Olivia said. “Online learning makes it easier for me to adapt my schedule when I need to.”

Natalie came to the online school at the beginning of the year because her mother/learning coach, Sarah, believed Natalie needed more flexibility in her schedule and the ability to work at her own pace. “Natalie loves to explore topics that she's interested in more in depth,” Sarah said. “When a topic is introduced during a lesson, she's able to dive much deeper into the content.”

Rylee’s mother, Katja, said they enrolled her in the online school in 2018 so she could work at her own pace. “When Rylee was in a brick-and-mortar building it was hard for her to keep on task and get all of the work completed in the time frame that they had,” Katja said “She enjoys the different types of learning tools like visual, audio and reading to herself.”
