Cuyahoga Falls Patch: When did Metropolis Popcorn open, and how did you find yourself running a place like this?

VanFossen: Metropolis Popcorn opened in 2004 in Kent, then moved to Cuyahoga Falls in 2007. I purchased the business from the original owner in October 2012. I had been looking for a business to buy since I was downsized during the summer of 2012, and was a huge fan of Metropolis as a customer. I was very excited when I saw it was for sale; it was truly the right opportunity at the right time.

Cuyahoga Falls Patch: What are some of the most popular items you sell?

VanFossen: A lot of people go for the flavors that you can't buy just anywhere. Our Chocolate-Peanut Butter Cup, Chocolate Covered Pretzel, Iced Cinnamon Roll and Sweet Heat flavors are all very popular. With that stated, we also have many fans of standard flavors such as White Cheddar, Caramel and Caramel Peanut. No matter your preference, with over 50 flavors to offer, there's something for everyone!

Cuyahoga Falls Patch: Any new items or popcorn flavors that you'd like to plug? And how do you decide what new items to sell?

VanFossen: Many of our ideas come from customer suggestions. We also choose seasonal flavors, such as the Chocolate-Covered Cherry flavor we made for Valentine's Day. We recently added three new flavors to our online menu —Better Kettle, Monterrey Jack and Sweet Heat. You can see them all at www.popohio.com.

Cuyahoga Falls Patch: What do you like about your location in Cuyahoga Falls?

VanFossen: My family has lived in the Falls since 2003 and have enjoyed the various downtown events throughout the years. There are very few cities that have what the Falls has, so we are fortunate to live here. Also, I love that the bank, post office, my accountant and my daughter's school (Redeemer Christian) are all within walking distance!

Cuyahoga Falls Patch: Anything Patch readers would be surprised to learn about you or the store? Or anything else you'd like to add?

VanFossen: All of our popcorn comes locally from Holmes County, and we pop it fresh here at the store. It's always fresh and delicious! Also, we're always looking to partner with schools and other organizations to help raise money through our awesome fundraising programs.
