5 Things People Tried to Steal in Fairlawn this Week

It's not always what you'd expect to find in a suspected thief's hands

1. A vacuum cleaner. Walmart security officers watched an Akron woman select a $66 vacuum sweeper from the shelf and take it directly to Customer Service to get a refund July 23. She got nervous when asked for an ID and left, but police found her at a nearby business.

2. Boots. A teen allegedly put on a pair of Timberland boots $180 at Dillard's and tried to walk out of the store in them July 24.

3. A purse. Police said an Akron man concealed a Michael Kors purse in a shopping bag at Dillard's July 23. When arrested and searched, police found four Michael Kors wristwatches in the pocket of his shorts. The merchandise was worth $793.

4. Food. Giant Eagle security officers watched a woman load a cart with $100 worth of food and wheel it into the parking lot July 28. When stopped, she fled in a white Hyundai. The food was recovered by the store.

5. $14 jewelry. A 15-year-old girl was apprehended July 26 for trying to smuggle a bracelet and necklace out of Spencer Gifts in a bag.
