To the editor,

...it takes a township...

A little history...Copley has been gathering at "the Circle"...have never heard anyone refer to it as " the Center or Square"... for as many years as there has been a Copley, 1819 and before---grazing their animals, buying, selling and trading goods and services with their neighbors. Folks used to come and visit and have ice cream from Seth Minor's store. There was a huge celebration for the Township's Sesquicentennial in 1969...does anyone remember your Dad growing a beard or having to get a license not  to grow one? The first "Heritage Day" was held in conjunction with our nation's Bicentennial. With a few exceptions, it has been celebrated every year since. The locale and times have changed...gone from the Circle to the high school and back again...several days to 2 days to one...but the spirit to come together and remember and celebrate is always there.

In 2011, a small, hearty bunch, led by Daryl Warner--also president of the Copley Historical Society-- stepped up  and worked very hard to get Copley Heritage Day going again. Last year was a wonderful success, but we want to do better. The crew that came back from last year is already working on ... the kids' area ... donations from local and national merchants ... a new banner to be displayed at The Circle  ... bake off and "donation sale" ... parade... website. Have you heard this before, "We need more volunteers"?  There are some out there that have does this before and you would be an immense help and very welcomed addition to our group. We are hoping to add more activities and displays this year. Still needed are directors/coordinators for financial, volunteers, logistics, vendors, publicity and entertainment/activities.

Whether you are born and raised or a ''transplant'' Copleyite, this is a wonderful activity with  which to be associated. It will give you a rewarding feeling of community and accomplishment...knowing that you helped continue such a time-honored tradition.

Our next meeting will be TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19th, 7:00 pm at the Township Hall.
