Bath, Fairlawn Residents Invited to Akron Zoo for Free
New Grizzly Ridge exhibit will be open in time for Community Days

Residents of Bath, Fairlawn and Copley can get into the Akron Zoo free of charge during Community Days Sept. 1-5.
Tickets are available at Bath, Fairlawn and Copley town halls, as well as at the Akron Zoological Park, from July 2 to Aug. 30, while supplies last. They are limited to four per household.
Parking, which is $2 per car, is not included.
Beth Kreiner, zoo spokeswoman, said the newest attraction, Grizzly Ridge, is set to open July 20. It will feature grizzly bears, river otters, bald eagles, coyotes, red wolves and a walk-in aviary.
Kreiner said the zoo has changed dramatically from when she went there on school field trips.
"It was goats. And it was dirty," she said.
Now, the zoo has 56 exhibits and draws 330,000 visitors a year.
"We've become a very family friendly place," Kreiner said.
The Akron Zoo has made significant improvements each year since it opened year-round in 2000, including Komodo Kingdom, Journey to the Reef, Penguin Point and a new train.
The Akron Zoo, voted Summit County's No. 1 attraction, is one of only 225 zoos in the United States accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
