Cause of Fairlawn Fire Still Under Investigation

Blaze in office building closed Miller Road

 

Firefighters evacuated employees from a South Miller Road office building Friday afternoon after a fire broke out on the first floor.

Fire Lt. David Young said some employees were still inside the Welty building, 123 S. Miller Rd., trying to put out the blaze, when firefighters arrived around 3 p.m.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which brought out units from Akron, Bath and Copley to assist.

"It (the fire) was knocked down real quick," said Young, who said there was still quite a bit of smoke damage.

Young estimated the fire and smoke caused about $40,000 in structural damage and another $20,000 to contents.

Cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is still under investigation, he said.

Miller Road was blocked to traffic during the fire.
