City of Fairlawn Officially Brands Market Street as The 18 Corridor. The City of Fairlawn has branded their section of State Route 18, a 2.1 mile stretch along Market Street, officially as The 18 Corridor. With this branding effort, their goal is to attract more visitors and business to the city, and encourage them to take advantage of the many shops, businesses, restaurants and lodging. The campaign is also aiming to encourage tourists to stay in Fairlawn lodging when taking in the many sites in the Greater Cleveland and Greater Akron areas. The city will also use the effort to attract new businesses to locate or relocate to Fairlawn, while also encouraging redevelopment and updating of existing properties. There will be several programs put into motion in the next months and years to help achieve this goal. Planned marketing executions will include the development of traditional and online digital billboards, a social media campaign, several community related events, video development and public relations. Local businesses will also have multiple opportunities to partner with the city throughout the campaign. The City of Fairlawn launched a new website in conjunction with the branding effort, designed to promote local businesses and the programs they will be implementing. The new website can be accessed at www.The18Corridor.com. Businesses in the area will also be able to promote their business on the new website and The 18 Corridor social media platforms. The branding and subsequent marketing campaign was developed and is being managed by The Eisen Agency, a nationally award winning branding, marketing and media agency that works with destination points, municipalities and businesses.

Theft A manager contacted Fairlawn Police after a shopper reported seeing a man stuffing meat into his pants at 2:45 p.m. July 23.  Allan R.  Cesa, 60, of Cuyahoga Falls, was stopped by police in the parking lot. Officers  found steaks valued at $100.52 hidden in the man's pants. Cesa was given a summons for misdemeanor theft from police and a no-trespass order from the store. The steaks were returned to Giant Eagle. Theft A security officer told police he saw a man who had made purchases in the store on July 21 return to the store at 7:50 p.m. and place nine rolls of toilet paper in his shopping bags, then go to the customer service counter to retrieve a pair of lost sunglasses. Leonard L. Wilson, of Akron, was charged with misdemeanor theft.  Wilson was arrested a few blocks from the store on a Metro Bus and instructed to return to Walmart. The theft of the TP, valued at $3.00, was captured on store video. Safecracking The manager and an employee of of America arrived at 9 a.m. to open the Summit Mall store  and found the gate ajar and the keypad hanging off of a locked store safe. After entering the number, the manager discovered $500 cash and $1849.22 from previous night's deposit missing. Keys to fitting rooms and cash registers also were missing. A store clerk told Fairlawn Police the store was closed at 9:45 p.m. the previous night and everything was locked and secure.
