Fairlawn Woman Charged for Leaving Dog in Car on 100-Degree Day

Information provided by the Fairlawn Police Department.

Someone called on July 7 to report a dog left alone in a car in full sun, according to a police report. The temperature was 98 degrees with a 107-degree heat index, the report said.

The car was parked at , and when the officer arrived, he saw the dog "panting profusely" in the front seat. The report said the dog also acted lethargic.

The car owner left the window down and the officer was able to reach in and unlock the door to give the dog water, the report said.

About 10 minutes later, the owner came out of HomeGoods and told the officer she was only in there for five minutes.

Police charged the Fairlawn woman with animal cruelty.
