A public forum on bullying, a book signing, teacher conferences and Al Sharpton speaks.

This week starts out with a holiday devoted to love, but after that it’s back to school and back to business. Here are five things happening you might want to check out that have nothing at all to do with hearts and flowers. 

Bullying PreventionGeorgette Constantinou, director of pediatric psychology and psychiatry at Akron Children’s Hospital, will speak at a community forum from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Shaw Jewish Community Center, 750 White Pond Dr.

Student-Teacher ConferencesCopley-Fairlawn teachers meet with parents by appointment after classes this Thursday. Evening conferences for grades nine through 12 begin at 3:30 p.m.; conferences for kindergarten through eighth-grade students begin at 4:30 p.m.

Rev. Al Sharpton – will be the keynote speaker Thursday at Mountain of the Lord Church in an event organized in response to the conviction of , the woman jailed for illegally enrolling her children in Copley-Fairlawn Schools. The meeting is free and open to the public and will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the church, 1477 Copley Rd.  

State of the County Summit County Executive Russ Pry will give his annual State of the County Address Friday at noon at the John S. Knight Center, 77 E. Mill St. The annual address and luncheon is sponsored by the Akron Press Club. Tickets are $15 for APC members, $20 for non-members.

Meet the Editor Since Fairlawn-Bath Patch launched in December, I've been speaking to all kinds of groups hoping to meet as many of you as possible. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, I'll be at the Bookseller signing copies of my book, Wicked Akron: Tales of Rumrunners, Mobsters and Other Rubber City Rogues.
