Local Giant Eagle Stores Donate to Akron Children's Hospital

Grocery chain raises money for childhood cancer treatment

Representatives from Giant Eagle presented Akron Children’s Hospital with a check for $78,395 during the Akron Aeros’ hematology/oncology awareness game on Aug. 23 at Canal Park.

The money was raised this summer at 26 Giant Eagle stores in Portage, Summit and Stark counties and benefits the Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Akron Children’s Hospital.

“We are incredibly grateful to Giant Eagle and their customers for supporting the patients and families of northeast Ohio fighting childhood cancer and blood disorders at Akron Children’s,” Jeffrey Hord, MD, director of the Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, said in a news release.
