New York Man Caught Passing Counterfeit Bills at Mall

A Brooklyn, NY, man paid a visit to on May 19, but he didn't actually pay for his purchases, according to a report.

The man went into , Hollister, Gap and The Limited and made purchases that were under $100 and paid the cashier with counterfeit $100 bills, the report said.

Then he made his way to Banana Republic, where the cashier became suspicious of his money and told him she could not complete the transaction. The man then left the mall, having used $500 in counterfeit bills.

By that time, the manager at Gap realized the bills were fake and began making calls to other Gap stores in the area, the report said.

On the same day, the man showed up at Beachwood Mall's Gap store and tried to pay with another fake $100, but was caught by Beachwood police, the report said.

The 30-year-old man was arrested and police charged him with passing counterfeit bills.
