Ohio House District 38: The Candidates

Lynn Slaby (R) and Michael Kaplan (D) are running uncontested in the March 6 primary.

The March 6 primary a little more than a week away, and Fairlawn and Bath Township residents will be asked to vote for either a Republican or Democrat candidate for Ohio's 38th District House seat.

The uncontested Republican candidate is incumbant Lynn Slaby. He is a retired judge from the Ninth District Court of Appeals, and before that he served 14 years as the Summit County prosecuting attorney. If elected in the November general election, he would serve his second term.

Slaby lives with his wife and former State Rep. Marylin Slaby in Copley.

The uncontested Democrat candidate is Mike Kaplan, former mayor of the village of Peninsula.

Kaplan is a self-employed attorney and also served on the Peninsula Village Council. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from The State University of New York (SUNY) Stony Brook campus.
