City of Fairlawn Officially Brands Market Street as The 18 Corridor. The City of Fairlawn has branded their section of State Route 18, a 2.1 mile stretch along Market Street, officially as The 18 Corridor. With this branding effort, their goal is to attract more visitors and business to the city, and encourage them to take advantage of the many shops, businesses, restaurants and lodging. The campaign is also aiming to encourage tourists to stay in Fairlawn lodging when taking in the many sites in the Greater Cleveland and Greater Akron areas. The city will also use the effort to attract new businesses to locate or relocate to Fairlawn, while also encouraging redevelopment and updating of existing properties. There will be several programs put into motion in the next months and years to help achieve this goal. Planned marketing executions will include the development of traditional and online digital billboards, a social media campaign, several community related events, video development and public relations. Local businesses will also have multiple opportunities to partner with the city throughout the campaign. The City of Fairlawn launched a new website in conjunction with the branding effort, designed to promote local businesses and the programs they will be implementing. The new website can be accessed at www.The18Corridor.com. Businesses in the area will also be able to promote their business on the new website and The 18 Corridor social media platforms. The branding and subsequent marketing campaign was developed and is being managed by The Eisen Agency, a nationally award winning branding, marketing and media agency that works with destination points, municipalities and businesses.

A 15-minute shopping trip cost a woman her purse when she left it in her unlocked car April 20. A report said the woman ran into Old Navy from 8:45 to 9 p.m., leaving her purse on the floor of her car. She thought she locked her car, a report said, but apparently only locked the drivers's door. The purse was missing when she returned. No Parking Police officers spotted a car parked in a handicapped spot April 27, with no placard visible. When officers stopped the car -- the driver put on a left-turn signal, then made a right turn out of the parking lot -- the driver did produce a handicapped parking placard. However police ran the registration number and determined it was fake. The driver was cited for parking in a handicapped spot and for having a phony placard. Car Fire Leads to Arrest A vehicle fire brought police to Medina Road at Crystal Lake Road about 11:45 p.m. April 26. When officers arrived, they found a man sitting in the vehicle. He refused to give his name, then had difficulty retrieving his license from his wallet, a report said. After the Fire Department took care of the fire, the man registered a .346 blood-alcohol reading on a breath test -- more than four times the legal limit for driving. He was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired.
