Spring Forward! Time to set your clocks ahead.

Change clocks and smoke detectors.

Procrastinators take note -- it's time to spring forward!

Given the Friday snow storm it may be tough for many of you to think of spring, but it's right around the corner -- really. Daylight Saving time kicks in at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 13, so set your clocks ahead before you turn in for the night.

Sure it's a lot of running around the house and re-setting. On the up side, this means clock in my car will be correct for the next few months...

Ohio's interim State Fire Marshal Donald Cooper says while you're changing clocks all over the house, it's also a good idea to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

The United States Fire Protection Association (USFA) and Ohio's fire departments, the Ohio Department of Commerce's Division of State Fire Marshal encourages Ohioans to make it a habit to change the batteries in their smoke detectors at least twice a year.

Remember, only a working smoke detector can save your life.

According to a state news release, 28 people have died in 22 fatal residential fires reported to the Division of State Fire Marshal as of March 1. Smoke detectors were confirmed present in 10 (45%) of those fires and functioning in only 1 (5%) of the incidents.

It's not a big expense to get one. Smoke detectors can retail for about $10. Test them once a month and change them when you change clocks. Simple, no?
