City of Fairlawn Officially Brands Market Street as The 18 Corridor. The City of Fairlawn has branded their section of State Route 18, a 2.1 mile stretch along Market Street, officially as The 18 Corridor. With this branding effort, their goal is to attract more visitors and business to the city, and encourage them to take advantage of the many shops, businesses, restaurants and lodging. The campaign is also aiming to encourage tourists to stay in Fairlawn lodging when taking in the many sites in the Greater Cleveland and Greater Akron areas. The city will also use the effort to attract new businesses to locate or relocate to Fairlawn, while also encouraging redevelopment and updating of existing properties. There will be several programs put into motion in the next months and years to help achieve this goal. Planned marketing executions will include the development of traditional and online digital billboards, a social media campaign, several community related events, video development and public relations. Local businesses will also have multiple opportunities to partner with the city throughout the campaign. The City of Fairlawn launched a new website in conjunction with the branding effort, designed to promote local businesses and the programs they will be implementing. The new website can be accessed at www.The18Corridor.com. Businesses in the area will also be able to promote their business on the new website and The 18 Corridor social media platforms. The branding and subsequent marketing campaign was developed and is being managed by The Eisen Agency, a nationally award winning branding, marketing and media agency that works with destination points, municipalities and businesses.

The charges piled up for an Akron man who was stopped March 6 for not having a front license plate on his car. The man, first spotted pulling out of a handicapped parking space at Walmart, was found to have an active warrant from Akron police for drug abuse of a counterfeit controlled substance.  During a search of the car, police found a bag of what appeared to be marijuana. When an officer asked what it was, the man replied, "My pot," a report said. He was cited for not displaying a front plate and driving under suspension, and also for parking in a handicapped spot with a placard that belongs to his mother. A summons was issued for the marijuana possession charge. Sit-in at Mall? Police were called by Summit Mall security March 3 to help remove an intoxicated man from a store. Offiers found the man, 20, sitting on the floor at Hot Topic. Security officers said they took a Power Aid bottle from the man when they confronted him in the store for intoxication and found it smelled like an alcoholic beverage. The man was cited for open container and could face undrage drinking charges. He was released to his mother and banned from the mall for two years. The Power Aid bottle was confiscated as evidence.
