Mayor Celebrates Birthday with City Council

For the first time in this reporter's career members of sang happy birthday and served cake to celebrate the birthday of a sitting mayor.

Kent Mayor Jerry Fiala blew out the candles on a surprise chocolate birthday cake Wednesday prior to the start of council's meeting.

Fiala said he'd been bombarded with well-wishes throughout the day Wednesday.

"This is the longest birthday ever," he said.
