NEOMED Gets $1 Million Gift

The donation helps advance students and keeps the University's Academic Technology Department innovative.

From NEOMED: Northeast Ohio Medical University announced additional private support of $500,000 from Dr. Chander and Mrs. Karen Kohli. The Youngstown couple’s generosity builds on their original gift of $500,000, named as the Aneal Mohan Kohli Academic Technology Endowment. The $1 million total gift from the Kohlis helps advance NEOMED’s students and keeps the University’s Academic Technology Department innovative in its delivery of online course material.

In appreciation of the Kohli family’s contributions, the University held a private reception at which it re-named its library the Aneal Mohan Kohli Academic and Information Technology Center in honor of the Kohlis’s beloved son, whose promising life was cut short at age 30. Aneal loved creating videos and the technology associated with them, and the Kohlis created the endowment in 2011 as a very special tribute to their son.

"Dr. and Mrs. Kohli give from their hearts. Their gift to increase the endowment for our Academic Technology Department will forever benefit our students and faculty with enhanced teaching and learning capabilities,” notes Lindsey H. Loftus, senior development officer at NEOMED. “As they honor Aneal's memory they are also assisting every NEOMED student now and in the future. What a wonderful tribute."

A leading neurosurgeon, he has operated a private neurosurgical practice in Youngstown since 1972.

Dr. Kohli served as chair of the NEOMED board of trustees from 2013-15, during a time of great growth for NEOMED. He has served on the board longer than any other current member.
