POLL: Tired of Construction Detours?

Lane closures start Monday on North Mantua Street; the past few years in Kent have become a blur of orange barrels

Construction season is ramping up and about to hit its stride for 2012, and that means more orange barrels in Kent.

Starting Monday, construction on the Fairchild Avenue Bridge project moves back across the Cuyahoga River to S.R. 43. That means S.R. 43 will see lane closures starting April 2 between Fairchild Avenue and Stinaff Street through August.

Here's the latest lane closure details:

  • Traffic will be reduced to two lanes on S.R. 43, one northbound lane and one southbound lane, from Fairchild Avenue to Stinaff Street.
  • Cuyahoga Street and Stinaff Street will be closed at S.R. 43 (Mantua Street).
  • No left turns will be allowed from S.R. 43 onto the new Fairchild Avenue Bridge.

Last week, the city closed a portion of South DePeyster Street from Haymaker Parkway to Erie Street for the duration of construction on the new which isn't scheduled to open until 2013.

Between the new bridge, downtown construction, new streetlights on S.R. 59, demolition work throughout the city and other projects Kent has seen it's fair share of street closings in the past few years. And drivers are guaranteed to see more detour signs and orange barrels for the next two years.
