15-Story Lakewood Center North to Transition to Upscale Apartments, Mixed Use
High-rise apartment living is coming to downtown Lakewood.
Cleveland.com reports that the Kowit & Company Real Estate Group will be converting Lakewood Center North to mostly upscale apartments. Lakewood Center North is located at 14600 Detroit Avenue right in downtown Lakewood and is a backdrop for events such as LakewoodAlive's Summer Meltdown and the winter festival, Light Up Lakewood.
12 of the 15 floors will be converted to one and two bedroom apartments ranging in size from 700 to 1,300 square feet. Rent will start at $1,000 per month according to Cleveland.com. Stainless steel appliances, a dog walking area, fitness area, grilling area and a 1,000 car parking garage are some of the amenities planned. More retail is planned for the first level and the building is currently home to Forage Public House restaurant.
The City of Lakewood's website reports that the building is currently 50 percent occupied however, New York Life, the building's largest tenant has plans to move into a new space in downtown Cleveland at the end of 2016.

Building owner, Brad Kowit told Cleveland.com that felt the Lakewood's housing market was strong and that New York Life's exit will make way for the "mixed-use tower offering new housing options in Downtown Lakewood."
