- Lakewood's Beck Center has announced its 2022-2023 poetry reading and storytelling series. The new season will kick off on Sep. 24 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Studio Theater. Poets, writers, and listeners of all ages are invited to participate in the series, which also includes a Nov. 19 performance, as well as two spring dates. “We have a list of people who have signed up, and the people on that list can read their own poetry or the works of other poets,” said Beck Center Customer Service Associate Justine Horning. - On Saturday, a British bar owner memorialized the queen with her favorite cocktails. Richard Read, the owner of Griffin Cider House and Gin Bar in Lakewood, left England more than 16 years ago but still vividly recalls encounters with the British royal family. On Sep. 17, he hosted an event to memorialize Queen Elizabeth II with a special drink menu and unite with other mourners in their grief at his bar. “I want to dedicate something to the life and the history of our late Queen Elizabeth II,” Read said. - Cuyahoga County security guards are allowed to carry guns again — at least for now. On Monday, a judge granted a temporary restraining order allowing security guards to once again carry guns in Cuyahoga County court buildings. The ruling comes after a complaint was filed by the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (OPBA) against Cuyahoga County in response to a new policy that disarmed “protective service officers.” (cleveland19)
