Frequent Flooding on Interstate 90 Between Rocky River and Lakewood

Clogged storm drains are part of the problem.

Part of Interstate 90 near McKinley in Lakewood was underwater again on Monday morning and ODOT tweeted about it (see tweet below). Seeing the Ohio Department of Transportation cleaning out the clogged storm drains in that stretch of Interstate 90 has become a much too common occurrence reports newsnet5 Cleveland.

The flooding is also creating a safety hazard as well. On Monday, a car hydroplaned and careened into a Lakewood police car. The policer was not hurt, but the driver of the vehicle was taken to Fairview Hospital for minor injuries.

“Drainage is something that we at ODOT take care of, we maintain that along the interstates. We do a lot of drain cleaning throughout the year.” Amanda McFarland from ODOT District 12 told newsnet5 Cleveland.

On Monday, the Rocky River side of I-90 did not flood, ODOT says that this is a result of a through cleaning of the Rocky River storm drains last summer. The cause of the flooding on the Lakewood side of I-90 is being looked into.
