Seth Unger, the spokesman for Mandel, said that the treasurer plans to tour the library, which recently deposited $4 million into the STAR program.
“STAR Plus is modeled after banking practices the private sector has been using for some time, but we are now allowing Ohio local governments to take advantage of it,” Unger said. “The program lets banks leverage FDIC insurance to give governments a better interest rate on their deposits. In the case of Lakewood, they can potentially triple their investment income, which can be a pretty big deal.”
