Lakewood City Schools Change Dress Code

The last time the Lakewood Schools dress code was revised was nearly 10 years ago.
"It was time for an update as cultural norms and fashion norms have changed," said Lakewood City Schools Communications and PR specialist, Christine Gordillo.
At their recent meeting, the Board of Education approved a new dress code for middle school and high school students which will go into effect with the 2016-2017 school year.

Some of the goals of the new dress code were to find ways to eliminate gender bias and body shaming, reduce time students spent out of the classroom due to dress code violations and simplicity of enforcement.
A commitment has been made to review the dress code policy every five years.

Some of the changes include lifting the bans on hoodies and leggings and changing length of skirts/shorts to mid-thigh. The updated dress code can be viewed and downloaded below.
