Snapshot: Lakewood Orchestra Students Raise $11K in Music Marathon

Pajama-clad Lakewood High School students played music all day Saturday to raise money for the school orchestra's annual fundraiser.

Pajama-clad students played music all day Saturday to raise money for the school orchestra’s Music Marathon.

Then, they played into the evening.

The members of the school’s orchestra program — which includes string, philharmonic, symphony, chamber and the Lakewood Project — started playing at 6:30 a.m. and played for 13 hours straight.

When they were done, the program had raised more than $13,000.

Orchestra Director Beth Hankins said she was happy with the results.

"I'm just so pleased that in this economy we were able to raise what we did," she said in a Lakewood Schools news release.

"The kids worked really hard,” to gather sponsorships, she added.
