Lakewood Residents Have Fireworks Shows of Their Own

There were 64 complaints of fireworks in Lakewood from July 1 through July 6.

However, the number of reports is down from 92 in 2011, said Chief Timothy Malley.

The police department received dozens of calls about residents setting off fireworks — coming in the form of noise complaints.

Most of the reports occurred on July 4, when there were 39 separate calls to police about fireworks.

There no centralized location for the calls — they ranged from residential streets to . 

Many of those caught were charged with setting off fireworks were juveniles. In many of the other cases, the perpetrators escaped being caught.

Possession or setting off fireworks in Lakewood is a first-degree misdemeanor in Lakewood.
