Lakewood Schools Select New Athletic Director
The Board of Education approved his appointment last week. Get to know the man who will lead Lakewood athletics.
LAKEWOOD, OH β The Lakewood Board of Education approved the appointment of Robert D. Slone as the next athletic director for the district last week.
Slone was previously a math teacher at Lakewood High School and the head basketball coach. His new, three-year contract will begin Aug. 1, 2022.
βI am extremely excited for the opportunity to return to Lakewood as the next athletic director. I am who I am largely due to the time I spent coaching here. I learned how to win here, and that wasnβt always about what the scoreboard showed," Slone said in a statement.

Slone is currently the associate principal of Cuyahoga Falls High Schools. Prior to joining Cuyahoga Falls, he was the athletic director for St. Mary-St. Vincent High School, and previously coached the Lakewood High School basketball team. He won the Greater Cleveland Basketball Coaches Association and All-Northeast Lakes District Coach of the Year honors in 2002.
"We won because we built strong, lasting relationships; we played for each other, the school, and the whole community. I have built so many relationships at Cuyahoga Falls City Schools that will be hard to leave, but I truly feel like Iβm coming home!,β Slone added.

Slone is replacing Sean Jackson, who is transitioning to a teaching position within the district.
During the same meeting, Lakewood assistant coach Grant Graves was made the new varsity baseball coach.
