Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:
- Lakewood's Church of the Ascension is hosting its second annual Car Show this September. On Sep. 11, join the church as it prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025 on the very same property where it all began in 1875. The event will include cars, raffles, food, music, trophies, and more. The event will take place at 13216 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Lakewood Observer)
- On Thursday, a Hollywood-like premiere took place to showcase the Young Filmmakers' summer movie projects. Students in the Young Filmmakers Academy’s advanced summer program created the film short “Star Player,” an ‘80s homage to “E.T.,” “The Karate Kid,” and “Goonies” about a teenage alien who crash-lands on Earth and joins the high school baseball team. The film premiered at Cuyahoga County Public Library’s Parma-Snow Branch Sari Feldman Auditorium. (Cleveland.com)
- Next week, the Lakewood Ohio Division of Aging & the Lakewood Family Room will host an Intergenerational Summer Cookout. All are invited to join for a fun-filled day in the sun at Cove Community Center. The cookout will take place on Aug. 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 12525 Lake Avenue. RSVP by calling Aging at 216-529-5000 or emailing The Lakewood Family Room at echildhood@lakewoodoh.net. (Lakewood Observer)
