Thousands of people — many of them camped out at the park for hours — began a slow retreat to their homes when the lights came back on at around 10:30 p.m.

“We’re sorry. I am personally embarrassed. I feel bad for the citizens of Lakewood.”

However, Lakewood residents sounded off about the cancellation. Their , Twitter and Facebook.
They weren’t happy.
Most were upset that the city was unable to share with them that the show had been canceled.
Here are just a few of the comments:
The lack of communication was awful. Very disappointed. -
The malfunction was the fireworks company's fault, but the lack of communication was on the city. We were in the back, within the park, and didn't know for sure what happened until we got home and read this article. -
I was at Lakewood Park and it was a very unfortunate ending. Communication was nonexistent. Let people know what is going on. The people near us weren't told anything. Figure out a way to communicate to the people who look forward to this event all year and all day, then can't even be told what is going on. They are just left in the dark! Problems happen. Understand that. But handle the situation better! Maybe a public address system could be used? -
So a computer board malfunctioned and the company didn't have a backup or redundant system?! Then there was no announcement or communication? Failure on Lakewood tonight. Very bad feel and it should not be understood that this whole thing is ok. -
