UPDATE: Man Arrested Following Shooting in Lakewood

Police: Victim knew the man she accused of attacking her.

Police have arrested a 44-year-old Cleveland man in connection with a shooting that took place at 9:30 this morning at an apartment on Detroit Avenue.

Robert Doss, 44, Cleveland, was taken into custody more than two hours later at a home in Fairview Park. He was identified by the victim, who had been shot once in the head while in her apartment at 13531 Detroit Avenue.

The victim, a 39-year-old woman, was found by emergency rescue crews on the floor of the apartment. She was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. Her condition is not yet known.

She was able to tell EMS workers on the way to MetroHealth who had attacked her.

Capt. Ed Hassing of the tracked Doss from Parma to Fairview Park — but his whereabouts were not accounted for between the shooting and his arrest.

A vehicle registered to Doss was found abandoned in Parma, and he was taken into custody at a friend's apartment at 11:44 a.m.

“The victim identified him as the person who shot her,” Hassing said. “They knew each other, so this wasn’t a random thing." 

The suspect’s 67-year-old mother, Barbara Doss — who lived in the same apartment building as the victim — was also taken into custody. She has not yet been charged with a crime, Hassing said.

 “We don’t know the motives behind this at all,” he added.

Ed Favre, a retired Lakewood police sergeant and current school board member, told the that both Emerson Elementary and Garfield Middle schools were locked and students were kept inside until the police notified school officials that the suspect was taken into custody.

According to a release, the was assisted by members of the Northern Ohio Violent Federal Fugitive Task Force during the investigation.
