Mayor To Propose Vision For Lakewood Hospital Redevelopment

LAKEWOOD, OH — On April 4, Mayor Meghan George and her team will present Lakewood City Council with their vision for the redevelopment of the former Lakewood Hospital site.

“This agreement is a significant win for Lakewood on multiple levels, meeting goals that the community set out during the initial visioning process” George said in a statement. “Those aspirations included community and economic development priorities for public space; high quality architectural and environmental design; diverse and affordable housing; active commercial uses; and workforce growth. The elements of this agreement achieve that vision.”

George's office specifically touted its agreement with Roundstone Insurance, which will keep the growing company in Lakewood with an office building at the corner of Belle and Detroit avenues. The development will include more than 65,000-square feet of office space for Roundstone Insurance, and its growing roster of employees.

“Roundstone has been growing in our city for years, but would likely have ended up leaving Lakewood soon because there was no other location for them to continue that growth trajectory,” said Lakewood's Planning Director Shawn Leininger.

The redevelopment will also include nearly 30,000-square feet of ground floor retail or restaurant space; a 20,000-square foot plaza and community space; and a minimum of 200 units for mixed-income for-sale and rental housing and affordable units to address the cost of housing in Lakewood. There will also be a parking garage and additional public parking at the site.

If Lakewood City Council adopts the term sheet, George's office will negotiate final terms on the project and construction could begin as early as 2022.
