That news doesn’t discourage Carroll.
“We’re not wasting any time,” he said. “I know we’re going to be busy.”
The menu boasts such offerings as a pizza with pretzel dough crust, wheat crust pizza and a pizza topped with lasagna. There’s also traditional pizza — with lots of toppings.
“We tried to make this location a little different,” Carroll said. “East-siders aren’t really known for their culinary creativity. We wanted to take this classic, really good, Italian-American food from our sister restaurants — big portions and low prices — and try some new stuff.”
Zappitelli’s also features other staples such as spaghetti, sandwiches and salads.
The store already employs 15 people, including Carroll’s mom, Laureen Solomon.
“We don’t feel that you have to spend a lot of money to get fine dining,” he said. “Come in, make yourself at home and we will make you something good.”
