ICYMI: Preliminary Plans for Lakewood Family Health Center Revealed
Inpatient services at Lakewood Hospital have ended and preliminary plans for the family health center to take its place are unveiled.

The Cleveland Clinic and the Bostwick Design Partnership have presented preliminary plans for the new Lakewood Family Health Center to Lakewood city officials. The new facility will be built on the southwest corner of Belle and Detroit Avenues where the Lakewood Professional Building currently stands. The Lakewood Professional Building and the neighboring parking garage will be demolished to accommodate the new facility reports Cleveland.com. Lakewood Hospital was closed and ceased inpatient services earlier this year.
Robert Bostwick, president of Bostwick Design Partnership told Cleveland.com that the plans presented were "conceptual ideas we're putting together." See slide presentation below.
The early plans revealed that the proposed structure would be a three floor, 62,000-square-foot building. The first floor will house the emergency department, one that will be 300 square feet larger than the existing ED, Mike Zambo, of Bostwick Design Partnership told the architectural review board according to Cleveland.com. He added, "there should be no question of whether there is an ED in this building."
Also located on the first floor will be the imaging department where CAT scans, X-rays, mammography and ultrasound will take place. Family medicine and primary care physicians would be on the second floor and the third floor will be occupied by medical specialists according to the preliminary plan.
Members of the architectural board expressed concern that the plan did not include an entrance off of Detroit Ave. They pointed out that many of the FHC visitors and patients would be walking or using public transportation with stops along Detroit, the board urged the architects to look for ways to make a Detroit entrance possible.
The architectural review board's next meeting is scheduled for May 12th, additional details could be revealed at that time.
