Recount Coming for the Third Seat on School Board

Petrie-Barcelona's margin of victory smaller than one half of one percent; automatic recount triggered.

The race for the third seat just got a little bit closer. 

With the final tallies in, held a 70-vote lead over . 

But that's not enough to officially declare a winner.

According to the Ohio Revised Code, an automatic recount is triggered when a candidate’s margin of victory is one half of one percent of the total vote.

Petrie-Barcelona, earned 3,733 votes, with 15.5 percent of the total vote to Pagsuyoin’s 3,663 votes, and 15.21 percent of the total vote.

That .29 percent margin makes all the difference.

With all 41 precincts reporting on Tuesday,  and  to two of the three open seats.

Mike West, spokesman for the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, said that the process of finding out the winner could take a couple more weeks.

“We’re going to be looking at provisional ballots to see if there’s enough votes to make a difference,” he said. “That’s the process.”

In addition, the board of elections is still waiting to approve the official results.

“It’s only a day after the election, we’ve still got some work to do.”
