Residents Warned About Rash of Chrysler Thefts

If you own a Chrysler vehicle in Lakewood, look out.

Police issued an alert to residents Wednesday about a pattern of stolen Chryslers in the city.

Since Feb. 16, eleven vehicles have been stolen that are all of a similar make and model, said Police Chief Timothy Malley.

Seven are 2006 and older Chrysler Sebring, Cirrus or Dodge Stratus models. Four have been Plymouth Voyager, Dodge Caravan, and Chrysler Town & Country vans older than ten years. 

The vehicles have been stolen during the cover of night, usually while parked on the street.

"It would appear these are still easy types of vehicles to steal," said Malley. "Other than that I'm not sure why (there is) such a demand."  

There has been no area that has been specifically targeted, he added.

“Residents are reminded to keep their vehicles locked, parked in a well lighted area and all valuable objects removed from the car,” he said in the statement.

The is working with other area agencies — including the Cleveland Police Department — that are experiencing similar thefts.
