UPDATE: Sun Setting on the Detroit Theatre

The demolition of the building is expected in the coming weeks, as crews must first work to remove any asbestos.

Portions of the nearly 90-year-old building have and tossed in a large garbage container along the wall.

The theater — along with the in the building at 16407 Detroit Avenue — is slated for demolition.

Construction of the new , which would move the Sloane Avenue location, will begin shortly afterward.

“We’re hoping to have it open by Halloween,” Mike Lewis, the project manager for the Lakewood McDonald’s, told . “In construction there are always things that can slow you down.”

The project so far hasn’t exactly been speedy.  By the time demolition begins, it will have been a year since  first introduced the proposal to the city.
