Two More Streets Added to Summer Repaving Plan
Plans to pave St. Charles Avenue postponed because of a proposed water line replacement. "Alternates" also added to the project, should the bids come in lower than expected.

Because of a proposed water line replacement, St. Charles Avenue will not be one of about this summer.
Instead, city officials plan to pave two shorter streets: Adeline and Hilda avenues.
Joe Beno, the city’s director, said that rather than repave St. Charles — only to rip it up again later — the city would hold off paving that street.

Both Hilda and Adeline avenues, located next to each other between Lincoln and Brown avenues, are only about 500 feet long.
Both are in need of some repair, Beno said.

Last month, the city announced that 10 Lakewood streets are getting some fresh pavement.
Beno said should the bids come in lower than expected, four additional streets will be considered as alternates:
- Blossom Park, from Madison Avenue to Franklin Boulevard
- Lewis Drive, from Madison Avenue to Franklin Boulevard
- Summit Avenue, from Clifton Boulevard to Lake Avenue
- Lakeland Avenue, from Hilliard to Detroit avenues
“If the prices come in low, we can add these to the project,” Beno said.
Here’s the breakdown of the other streets in the plan — and the expected cost:
- Atkins Avenue: from Hilliard to Madison avenues. Estimated cost: $80,000.
- Brockley Avenue: from Detroit Avenue to Clifton Boulevard. Estimated cost: $205,000.
- Hird Avenue: from Clifton Boulevard to Lake Avenue. Estimated cost: $41,000.
- Lauderdale Avenue: from Madison to Detroit avenues. Estimated cost: $225,000.
- McKinley Avenue: from Hilliard to Madison avenues. Estimated cost: $108,000.
- Northland Avenue: from Marginal to Hilliard avenues. Estimated cost: $100,000.
- Wyandotte Avenue: from Franklin to Detroit avenues. Estimated cost: $130,000.
- Lakeland Road: from Delaware to Madison avenues. Estimated cost: $210,000.
- Waterbury Road: from Madison to Franklin avenues. Estimated cost: $125,000.
Members of city council public works and finance committees met on Monday to discuss the issue. The ordinance will go before council again next Monday.
