Vandalism, Theft at Lakewood Dog Park Reported

The Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park organization is asking for the public’s help solving a recent incident involving theft and vandalism.

Last Thursday, contents of the ’s lost-and-found box were thrown into the trash, then covered in “fecal waste.” 

Alanna Faith, president of the organization said several of the items had “significant value.”  

Other items belonging to the park were tossed in the trash. Faith said that a garage sale was planned to benefit the organization if the items went unclaimed. 

This isn’t the first incident.

Faith said that there were similar incidents in September and October 2011 — with similar circumstances. Items belonging to the park were tossed in the trash and covered in feces.

Some items — worth more than an estimated $100 — were also stolen.

“While the losses of each incident don't seem like a lot, they add up,” Faith said. “A Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park membership is only $10 a year; if we incur a loss of $100, that's equivalent to 10 memberships.”

“The most troubling aspect of vandalism and theft at the dog park is that people are maliciously damaging the dog park equipment and communication materials,” she added.

The Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park had planned to add new equipment, but Faith said the recent incidents “may impact those plans.”

“It's sad that people would target the dog park and ruin things,” she said. “Vandalism and theft may possibly mean that all dog park visitors may have to be deprived of new equipment.”
