5 Things You Need to Know This Week

Rabies vaccine, green task force, council meetings and more

1. The Ohio Department of Health will be distributing oral rabies vaccine today in Gates Mills, Wednesday in Mayfield Village and Highland Heights and Thursday in Mayfield Heights. Baits are 2-inch-by-2-inch hard, brown fishmeal blocks and will be distributed by hand and by helicopter. People who come across a bait are asked to leave it alone. If it's in an area where children or pets play, use gloves or a paper bag to pick it up and move it to a wooded area, ditch or other habitat that attracts raccoons.

2. Council will have a special meeting immediately following an 8 p.m. caucus meeting today at the Civic Center, 6622 Wilson Mills Road. The agenda includes the senior snow removal program and a parking lot retrofit demonstration project at Wiley Field.

3. Friends of the Mayfield Library will have its monthly book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the , 6080 Wilson Mills Road.

4. City Council Committee of the Whole will meet at 8 p.m. today at City Hall, 5827 Highland Road. Agenda items include community park resurfacing, a park pole barn pavilion and initiative petitions circulated by developer Lance Osborne.

5. Highland Heights Green Task Force will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Highland Heights Community Center, 5827 Highland Road. Tim Cole of Ohio Technical School will talk about alternative transportation options.
