Area schools are closed today because of the storm. The Mayfield City School District, Gilmour Academy, St. Francis of Assisi and St. Paschal Baylon all are closed.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until 10 p.m. tonight. Up to 5 inches of heavy snow fell overnight and another 3 to 5 inches is expected today.
According to the NWS, the snow should taper off during the afternoon, but gusty west winds will likely cause some drifting.
